We’re excited to announce that our DEM activity, Klimaatbestendig én zelfredzaam, has received funding from the Oranje Fonds in the Netherlands! This means we can move forward with our plans to make a neighbourhood more climate-resilient while strengthening community resilience and preparedness.
What’s the Plan?
During this NLdoet activity, we’ll take practical steps to tackle climate challenges such as heavy rainfall and heat while bringing neighbors together in a part of the city of Leiden. Our main focus areas are:
Greening Our Neighbourhood – We’ll plant greenery along facades to help reduce heat and improve water drainage, making our surroundings more liveable.
Installing Leaf Guards – A simple but effective solution to prevent water damage in homes and apartments, which we’ll install together at interested residents’ sheds.
Building Community Connections – With a shared goal and some good conversation over coffee, tea, and snacks, we aim to strengthen local ties and encourage further initiatives.
This initiative builds on previous greening efforts in the area, which have already had positive effects—biodiversity is improving, and even a hedgehog was spotted!
